- 1Preparation and positioning. Take the bar from the rack onto the upper chest, feet hip- to shoulder-width. Brace glutes/abs, ribs over pelvis, thumbs wrapped.
- 2Starting position. Elbows slightly in front of the bar, wrists over the forearms, the bar close to the body. Head neutral, gaze forward.
- 3Concentric phase. Press the bar vertically; pull the head back slightly so the bar clears close past the face. Once it passes forehead height, bring the head/torso back under the bar. No knee bend or hip-drive impulse.
- 4End position / lockout. The bar over mid-foot/shoulder, elbows extended, shoulder blades freely rotated upward/elevated. No extreme leaning back.
- 5Eccentric phase. Lower along the same path over 2–3 seconds back to the upper chest; move the head out of the way and hold torso position.
- 6Breathing and bracing. Inhale/brace 360° before the rep; exhale and reset after lockout. Use a cleared submaximal scheme if you have cardiovascular limitations.
- 7Valid rep. A start from the defined shoulder/chest position, no leg drive, the bar staying close, a full symmetric lockout over the body's center line, and a controlled return.

Sicherheit
- Shoulder: direct overhead load — only use a pain-free, cleared position.
- Older adults: overhead position, balance, and bone health matter — consider a machine or seated variant.
- Spine: axial load and anti-extension demand — use a cleared loading corridor.
- Balance: load overhead — use the rack, a coach, or an alternative if unsteady.
- Cardiovascular concerns or reduced bone density: get individual professional clearance.
Progressionen & Alternativen
- RegressionLiegestütz— A general pressing base without going overhead, if the overhead position isn't available yet.
- ProgressionWandgestützter Handstand-Liegestütz— A closed-chain, inverted pressing strength — its inversion/bail prerequisites need to be met separately.
- AlternativeWandgestützter Handstand-Liegestütz— A calisthenics-specific vertical push, if that's the skill goal.
