- 1Preparation and positioning. Sit with the forearms supported on the thighs or a bench and the wrists just beyond the edge. Use a dumbbell in each hand or one dumbbell at a time, with the palms facing upward for this wrist-flexion standard.
- 2Starting position. Keep the elbows and forearms still while the wrists begin near neutral or in a small pain-free extension. Hold the dumbbells securely without letting the fingers open at the bottom.
- 3Concentric phase. Curl the palms toward the forearms by flexing at the wrists. Move through the available wrist range without lifting the forearms, bending the elbows, or turning the dumbbells into a biceps curl.
- 4End position. Pause briefly at the top of the controlled wrist-flexion range. Do not force the knuckles toward the forearm or compress the wrist into a painful end position.
- 5Eccentric phase. Lower the dumbbells slowly back toward neutral and slight extension under control. Keep the forearms supported and the load centered rather than allowing the weights to roll toward the fingertips.
- 6Breathing and bracing. Breathe normally and keep the shoulder, elbow, and trunk relaxed. Use a deliberate tempo because momentum can hide the small wrist movement and overload the local tissues.
- 7Valid repetition. Count one repetition when the wrist moves from the defined start position into controlled flexion and returns without elbow, shoulder, or finger compensation. Keep the same wrist range and load across the set.
Häufige Fehler
Moving the forearm
Korrektur: Support the forearm and isolate the visible exercise action to the wrist joint.
Using excessive load
Korrektur: Choose a weight that allows a slow full controllable range rather than a shortened grip-driven movement.
Letting the fingers open
Korrektur: Keep a secure but not crushing grip and stop the set before the dumbbell can roll out.
Bouncing at the bottom
Korrektur: Reverse smoothly from the lowest pain-free position and remove momentum from the repetition.
Sicherheit
- The database vocabulary has no separate `wrist flexors` term; this record uses `forearms` as the closest defensible controlled label and operationally defines wrist flexion as the action.
- Wrist, hand, or elbow symptoms require a smaller range, lower load, or a different exercise; do not force an end-range stretch under load.
- Support the forearms securely and keep the dumbbells close to the body so a failed repetition can be placed down safely.
- Recent wrist injury, numbness, or persistent tendon symptoms warrant appropriate professional assessment before targeted loading.
Progressionen & Alternativen
- RegressionSupported Light Dumbbell Wrist Curl— Reduce the load and use a fully supported forearm so the small wrist motion can be standardized first.
- ProgressionHeavier Dumbbell Wrist Curl— Increase external load only when the complete controlled wrist range and secure grip remain unchanged.
- AlternativeReverse Wrist Curl— Train the opposite wrist action as a separate exercise; it must not be mislabeled as the same flexion record.
- AlternativeFarmer Carry— Train loaded forearm and grip endurance through a whole-body carry when isolated wrist flexion is not the priority.
