- 1Preparation and positioning. Use an intact wheel or bar with secured plates on a non-slip surface. Pad the knees and ensure the device can roll without catching.
- 2Starting position. Kneel with hands under the shoulders, elbows extended, and ribcage and pelvis stacked. Create gentle posterior pelvic control before moving.
- 3Eccentric phase. Roll forward by opening the shoulder angle and extending the body while resisting lumbar extension. Keep the wheel/bar on a straight, predictable path.
- 4End position. Stop at the longest range that preserves trunk and shoulder control; do not let the hips or lower back sag to gain distance.
- 5Concentric phase. Press down and pull the implement back by closing the shoulder angle and bringing the torso over the knees without piking abruptly at the hips.
- 6Breathing and bracing. Inhale and brace before rolling out; exhale through the return while maintaining abdominal tension.
- 7Valid rep. A rep reaches the same controlled distance and returns to the same kneeling stack with straight elbows, no lumbar collapse, and no sideways wheel path.
Häufige Fehler
Replacing trunk control with momentum
Korrektur: Slow the rep and shorten the lever or range until the pelvis and ribcage stay controlled.
Pulling the neck
Korrektur: Keep the neck long and let the trunk and hips perform the prescribed motion.
Forcing end range
Korrektur: Stop at the longest range that preserves breathing and spinal/pelvic control.
Rushing the return
Korrektur: Own the eccentric to the same start marker before the next rep.
Sicherheit
- If spinal symptoms, radiating pain, numbness, or weakness are present, stop and seek appropriate assessment; do not use bracing cues to train through neurological symptoms.
- For adolescents, older beginners, or anyone new to this movement, progress by technical competence and use qualified supervision rather than age-based loading targets or forced maximal attempts.
Progressionen & Alternativen
- RegressionStability-ball Rollout— Reduce strength, balance, or coordination demand while rehearsing the key pattern before returning to Ab Wheel Rollout.
- ProgressionStanding Ab Wheel Rollout— Increase load, range, instability, or skill demand after Ab Wheel Rollout is repeatable through the planned volume with reserve and no technique drift.
- AlternativeLanghantel-Rollout— Train a similar primary pattern with a different stability, equipment, or joint-loading profile when Ab Wheel Rollout is impractical or poorly tolerated.
